Coaching Staff

Mikko Makela
Head Coach/ Director of Hockey
In his sixth year with Warner Hockey School Mikko will once again perform double duty as Head Coach, and Director of Hockey Operations. Mikko brings a wealth of hockey knowledge to the program. As a player, Mikko was a two time Olympian and Olympic medalist. Mikko played seven seasons in the NHL, most of them with the New York Islanders. As an administrator and coach, Mikko has worked with the Lethbridge Hurricanes as Head Coach, and Ilves Tampere of the Finnish Junior League as Head Coach and General Manager. With an awesome line up to work with this season, Mikko is excited to see what the season brings, and how far he can take these players in the expanded JWHL league this season. Mikko lives in Lethbridge with his wife Janice and daughter Sophia.
Chad Jensen
Associate Head Coach
Chad is in his 9th year with Warner Hockey School and 7th year as a member of the coaching staff. Chad grew up in Taber, AB where he played his minor hockey and began coaching at the age of 18. Chad has over 14 years of coaching experience from the Peewee AA - Midget 15 AAA level to now working with the Warriors. He graduated from the University of Lethbridge in 2004 with a Bachelor of Science Degree and a Bachelor of Education Degree (Math Major). In addition to his coaching duties, Chad runs the team website, does video work for the team, and is a High School Math/CTS Teacher at Warner School. Chad lives with his wife Natalie in Lethbridge and in his free time enjoys golfing, running and travelling. Warner School and Warner Hockey School are lucky to have someone with Chad's dedication and commitment to the program.
Bob Heppler
Equipment Manager
Bob, a longtime Warner resident and local farmer will once again be fulfilling his duties as Warner Hockey School's Equipment Manager. He will continue with his many duties including keeping the girl's jerseys, socks, and other equipment smelling fresh and assisting in maintaining the dressing room. Bob is also the number one skate sharpener for the team, and knows just how each player likes her edges kept.
Amanda Kopjar
Athletic Therapist
This is Amanda Kopjar’s first year working with Warner Hockey School. She graduated from the University of Lethbridge in 2010 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology and Biology. Amanda then graduated from the Athletic Therapy program at Mount Royal University in 2012. She completed her Canadian Athletic Therapists Association National Certification Exam in November. She has experience working with teams such as the University of Lethbridge Pronghorn’s Women’s Basketball, Calgary Bantam and Midget Football, Men’s Rugby, and Minor Midget AAA hockey. She currently lives in Lethbridge. Warner Hockey School is privileged to have Amanda on staff for the 2012/2013 season!
